Develop effective reading skills with strategies that work! The book is divided into two parts to address key reading skills and ways to apply them. In the first part of the book, each skill is introduced with a What, How, Why? section, followed by a variety of practice activities. In the second part, students have the opportunity to apply the skills they learned using a variety of texts including novel extracts, cartoons, web pages, and more. InStrategies That Work: Reading Essentials, students will practice the following skills: skimming for gist or preview, scanning for specific information, predicting, working out word meanings, understanding main ideas, understanding detail, inferring, reading critically, and more. The activities are aligned with national standards and benchmarks. Answers are provided where appropriate.
